Lawmakers Not Making So Much Law in 113th Congress

Lawmakers Who Aren't Making Law

Published on Jul 23, 2013
(Video description from YouTube) The current Congress is on track to enact fewer bills than any other Congress in modern history. What's more, the number of bills introduced continues a downward trend from the last Congress. But this is just part of the picture. Some Members of Congress have proposed a lot of bills. And some not so much. 7/22/2013.

The western front of the United States Capitol. The Neoclassical style
building is located in Washington, D.C., on top of Capitol Hill at the east
end of the National Mall. The Capitol was designated a National Historic

This work is in the public domain in the United States because it is a work prepared

official duties under the terms of
Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code.
Make sure to watch the video above until the end. This guy is right. Nobody wants them to be writing bills just to meet some sort of quota or anything and in fact fewer bills may mean less government intervention in our lives which is definitely a good thing.

The point is they are not even introducing bills that would kill or revoke previously passed laws that were unnecessary or over reaching into our lives. They are called lawmakers right? So, whether we like it or not, that is what they do and if they don't ever introduce any bills into congress what are they doing?

What would be other ways their effectiveness could be measured?

By the way, how many of you remember Schoolhouse Rock? Check out "I'm Just a Bill" from that old show below. It should remind us again that lawmaking is what they do, whether it be a new law or changing or getting rid of old laws. It would take a new law to change an old law. They should be busy making the "right" laws.
